Spend two nights\n creating a still life drawing with charcoal or graphite. The first night w e\nwill learn to draw objects using line\, form\, and proportion. On the s econd\nnight\, we will apply value\, light\, and shadow to our still life drawings.\nLearn how to draw reflections and objects placed in water using various\ndrawing techniques. Work from provided still life objects or fee l free to\nbring objects of personal interest to you.
Brie Schettle is an i nterdisciplinary artist\nworking at the intersection of art and ecology wi th a background in\ndrawing\, painting\, printmaking\, installation\, phot ography\, and video.\nSchettle holds an MFA in Visual Arts from Boise Stat e University and a BFA\nin Painting and Drawing from the University of Wis consin-Milwaukee. She has\nexhibited work both nationally and internationa lly and participated in\nseveral artist-in-residence programs\, including La Porte Peinte in Noyers\nsur Serein\, France\, and the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan\, Ireland.\nSchettle completed her third residency an d first fellowship in 2020 at the\nSitka Center for Art and Ecology locate d on the Oregon coast. She has\nexhibited work in Idaho including the Neri Gallery\, Blue Galleries\,\nJack’s Urban Meeting Place\, Surel’s Plac e\, and the Stein Luminary at\nBoise State University. Schettle has a back ground in teaching\, curating\,\nand previously working for numerous nonpr ofits and art centers including\nthe Anderson Ranch Arts Center. She curre ntly teaches art at The College of\nIdaho and the College of Western Idaho .

January’s\ nsession explores culturally responsive\, art-based projects that honor Bl ack\nhistory\, creativity\, and contributions across the arts. Together\, we’ll\nengage with influential Black artists\, stories\, and visual trad itions\,\nusing collage\, drawing\, and mixed-media techniques to spark co nversation\,\ndeepen understanding\, and celebrate Black excellence in way s that resonate\nwith students of all backgrounds.
Part icipants will create\ntheir own artworks and discuss strategies for integr ating Black history as\nan essential part of American history—not just i n February\, but\nthroughout the school year. We’ll share classroom-read y ideas for weaving\nrepresentation\, identity\, and cultural awareness in to visual art lessons\,\ncore subjects\, and cross-curricular projects.
