"Reel to Real" Teen Night

Recycled Tetra Pak Printmaking

Wednesday, April 15, 2026 - 4:30 PM

"Reel to Real" returns with a hands-on night of experimental printmaking, transforming everyday materials into creative tools.

For this Teen Night, we’ll explore a DIY printmaking technique inspired by a video from YouTube, using recycled Tetra Pak cartons to create detailed printing plates. Participants will cut, score, and etch designs into the packaging material, then run their plates through a pasta roller to produce unique prints. We will also experiment with alternative pressing methods, including tortilla presses and hand-burnishing tools, to see how different techniques affect texture, line quality, and final results.

Teens will learn how to transfer designs, control pressure, and layer inks to build depth and variation in their prints. Expect a mix of precision and unpredictability as you test how unconventional tools can produce surprisingly professional results.

No prior experience is needed. This session is all about creative reuse, hands-on experimentation, and discovering new ways to make art with unexpected materials.

At the end of the night, participants will also vote on the next "Reel to Real" project, choosing the reel or short-form art idea that will be brought to life at May’s Teen Night.

Show up, make art, and help shape what comes next.

"Reel to Real" is a teen-led program that transforms creative inspiration from social media into real-world studio experiences. Each month, teens help choose what comes next, keeping the program fresh, collaborative, and driven by your ideas.
